The condensation reaction of of 2-hydroxy-5-chlorobenzaldehyde with 1,3-bis(3- aminopropyl)tetramethyldisiloxane in 2:1 ratio, in the presence of iron(III) perchlorate afforded a dimeric compound [Fe2L2(CH3O)2], where H2L is a tetradentate N,N,O,O ligand that contains a tetramethyldisiloxane unit (Scheme 1): Scheme 1. Pathway for Schiff base condensation. The formation of the complex was originally confirmed by element analysis and IR spectroscopy, which contains characteristic starching vibrations at 447 cm-1 assigned to metal-bond azomethine group, and absorptions at 1253, 1029 and 740 cm-1 typical for dimethylsiloxane moiety. X-ray single-crystal study has demonstrated that the compound has a molecular structure composed from neutral dimeric complexes (Fig. 1). |
