Rezumat

The first edition of the Congress was a manifestation that took place during the celebration of the centenary of Belgium's national independence, which involved several activities, the Belgian National Eucharistic Congress (which gathered around 200,000 people and which took place on 29th , 30th and 31st August 1930) included. One of the main purposes was to give an impulse and a new momentum to the Catholic press across the globe, but also to bring together Church leaders in charge of the press in order to establish the priorities and the themes of interest, as well as the methods of addressing the current problems of society. In our country, this extremely important event was not publicized. We find a few fragments referring to its organization only in some Catholic publications. At the request of the Vatican, an Executive Committee was created, consisting of Monsignor Gustavo Mailath - Bishop of Alba-Iulia and Monsignor Valeriu T. Frentiu - Bishop of Oradea, who prepared the Romanian delegation who participated in the congress and drew up the necessary materials. The Apostolic Nuncio was also involved in the organization of the Romanian representatives’ participation at the World Congress of the Catholic Press, but he did not give too much importance to the event. The bishops and representatives of the Romanian Catholic press were interested in and aware of the importance of such a congress; they actively participated in the creation of the delegation to participate in the event, as well as in the preparation of the necessary materials.
