În articol este abordată o problemă ce ține de prezentarea în plan psihologic a personajelor literare – reflectarea sinelui în lucrările prozatorului și dramaturgului american Henry James,– problemă care apare mult mai interesantă fiind cercetată în paralel cu reprezentarea sinelui în teoria psihologului William James (fratele scriitorului) – clar explicată în „Principiile psihologiei” (1890). Scopul cercetării este reprezentarea sinelui social de către Henry James în creația sa „Portretul unei doamne” (1880), în comparație cu teoria expusă de fratele său, William James, în „Principiile psihologiei”.

The article considers the problem of psychological representation of literary characters - the reflection of the Self in the work of the American novelist Henry James, an issue that appears more interesting while researched in parallel with the self-representation in the theory of the psychologist William James (the brother of the novelist) - clearly explained in the Principles of Psychology (1890). The purpose of the research is to portray Henry James’s representation of the social Self in his novel The Portrait of a Lady (1880) compared to the theory of his brother, William James, in The Principles of Psychology.
