Rezumat

We are living in an era of structural transformations. The pre-World War II multipolarity and Cold War Bipolarity has been replaced by unipolarity. Globalization and attendant global norms such as humanitarian intervention and popular participation in governance have eroded the “pillars of state sove-reignty. Concomitant with these structural changes has been a redefinition of international organizations and a revision of the conventional understanding of multilateralism. This article aims to chronicles the ways in which changes in the international system have been reflected in the works of international organiza-tion scholars. Our intention is to begin by looking at the history and evolution of multilateralism and to establish a baseline of the phenomenon and its ongo-ing relevance.
