Introduction: The rate of maternal mortality is an important index for the country’s economic development and also for the quality and effectiveness of gynecologic medical aid. The fact that the rate of maternal mortality in Moldova is characterized by instability grows awareness. Concerning the long-term demographic and economic crisis of the country, this issue appears even more disturbing. Aim: The research conducted a complex analysis of the maternal mortality registered in Moldova between years 20092014 and the possible risk factors. Materials and Methods: A prospective study and examination of medical documentations for 55 cases of maternal mortality in Moldova (btw. 2009-2014) has been carried out. This included specially elaborated inquiries. The collected data has been processed with the SPSS 20 and Microsoft Excel computer programs. Results: After analyzing the age distribution of deaths occurred after pregnancy, the following can be stated: the majority of the maternal mortality cases happened for women of age 20-39 (83,64%). The results also prove that a high percentage of maternal mortalities, occur by the multiple pregnancies (78,17%). Each 3rd woman had extra-vaginal illnesses. There has also been registered a preponderance of pregnancies suffering complications from 2-3 pathologies simultaneously. The results of the investigations about maternal mortality in the Republic of Moldova ( btw. 2009-1014), show that the majority of deaths deal with complications that were related with the pregnancy. A total of 33 patients suffered complications during delivery, which is also the cause for urgent caesarean section performances in 43,90% of cases. The deaths that occurred after deliveries were mostly the consequence of septic complications. Conclusions: The results of research prove that the majority of maternal mortalities registered in Moldova between years 2009-2014, could have been avoided. It is worrying to ascertain the considerable number of possible preventions that could have been carried out for the cases which were described above. This enforces to work upon new strategies for the expelling or sinking of maternal mortality rate in Moldova. Our results indicate that this is the health department, were the main problems of the medical system can be solved and would allow a lower rate for maternal illness and mortality. |
