The Great Bustard was present in the Ialomiţa County fauna until some three decades ago. While seen throughout the Bărăgan Plain as far back as the 1940-1950s, its area would subsequently shrink because agricultural lands kept expanding as did poaching, transport routes were being modernised, and the circulation of people intensified. The last specimens were observed in the south
of Sudiţi Commune. In remembrance of this beautiful bird species, the present logo of the Ialomiţa County Association of Sporting Hunters and Fishernen is a Great Bustard. |
