Rezumat

Latin doublets are established in the period of Greek – Latin bilingualism, starting with 1st century BC. In the medical language multiple doublets of the following type are attested: lat. cor, cordis, n = gr. kardia „heart”; lat. abdomen, inis, n (lat.) = gr. lapara „abdomen”; lat. digitus, i, m = gr. dactylus, i, m „finger”. Latin variants have an predicted role in anatomical terminology, those with Greek origin become usually elements of the compound terms which are used in the clinical twerminology. Investigation of the history of terminology formation can be considered difficult, but it offers the advantage of understanding and explaining of a scientific term, which is used in medicine or in another field of activity. Knowing the meanings of scholar units with Greek – Latin origin offers the possibility of conscious assimilation of a new term considered unknown at the first sight.
