The primary function of a language is being effective in communication. It means that students must interact in activities in solving different tasks they are assigned. Attempts to communicate must be encouraged right from the beginning the main purpose being the expression if meaning. Most of the tasks are based on reading, the information provided leading to an opinion gap which can be solved through interaction and communication.
The reading activities should be relevant and meaningful in order to motivate the
students to actively participate. The teacher has to be aware of the students’ needs in
approaching reading and guide them in agreement with the type of reading: reading comprehension followed by specific tasks, reading to develop vocabulary, reading and
retelling, reading for self-development, etc. The class procedures should reflect the purpose of the reading tasks in which the student is engaged with the text and its message. |
