The analytical character of the French language expressed by the absence of case and, hence the declension of nouns, involves syntactic remodeling in the French translation, resulting in an augmentation of the volume of the translated work into the target text: the original book written in Romanian contains 203 pages and the French version of the selftranslated volume has 215 pages. In the self-translational act, the author Tatiana Benchea uses a remodeling of the phrases for the restructuring of the discourse syntagmatic axis, by addition of words and by replacement of certain verb, noun and adjective forms with others, consistent with the requirements of the French syntax. The registered inconsistencies in the mot-á-mot translation are at grammar level, imposed by the rules of French grammar, the target language. The single-member noun lexical unit in Romanian becomes, in the French translation, a bi- member lexical unit, in the case of articulated nouns (la honte/ ruúinea “the shame”) and the masculine nouns in the genitive (du dialogue/ dialogului “of dialogue”), and even tri-member, in the case of feminine nouns in the genitive (de la fertilité/ fertilităĠii “of fertility”). The self-translator keeps intact the graphic forms of geographical, historical, socio-cultural names of her own native country, Romania. The perte/ gain antinomy, which has its roots in the dual status of the act of translation and re-writing (re-creation), records an amount of gain in the case of self-translation building, projected in the value dimension of both cultures: the Romanian and the French culture.
