Rezumat

The purpose of this paper is to highlight the situation of agriculture in the commune of Gătaia through the areas and productions obtained and the agricultural systems practiced. Located in southwest Romania, the city of Gătaia is in Timiş county and has the following geographic coordinates: north latitude 45 22; east longitude 21 25; It covers a total area of approximately 16,000 Ha of which: Gătaia-7370 ha, Sculia-4425 ha, Şemlacul Mare-1723 ha, Small Shemlac - 678 ha, Butin- 1403 ha, Percosova- 1448 ha. In Timiş county, it is located in the southern part, near the border with Caraş-Severin county, being located at a distance of 52 km (south) from the municipality of Timişoara and 47 km (northwest) from the municipality of Reşiţa. The connection with these two municipalities is made by railway and D.N. 52. Declared a city by Law no. 83/ 2004, Gătaia is composed of the localities: Sculia, Şemlacul Mic, Şemlacul Mare, Butin, Percosova. The location of these towns is as follows: in the north is the town of Sculia, 2 km from Gătaia, in the south is the town of Şemlacul Mic, 9.5 km, followed by the town of Şemlacul Mare, 9.7 km, Butin, 11.7 km and Percosova, 15.2 km. Gătaia borders Tormac and Voiteg communes to the N, Birda commune to the W, Moraviţa and Jamu Mare communes to the S and Caraş-Severin county to the east.
