Based on archival, local history and other materials, the article analyzes the first repressions against citizens in the Gagauz villages of Bessarabia during the Soviet period in 1940. A sample of 30 cases stored in the National Archive of the Republic ofMoldova was made. The analysis of these cases made it possible to determine the time and reason for the arrest, to analyze the social and professional status of those arrested, ethnic, gender and age composition. As examples, a brief biography of some citizens from Gagauz villages arrested in 1940 is described. The vast majority of arrested citizens died in a camp or exile. |
