Extortion, as a dangerous social phenomenon, began to emerge in the 1990s as a crime affecting both property and personal integrity, which has spread significantly and penetrated the various sectors of society, being used to obtain confidential information or to influence political or business deci-sions, but also in interpersonal relationships to obtain personal benefits or to exercise control over other people. The increased use of digital technologies and social networks has created new opportunities for criminals to commit such crimes. Criminals can also use the internet to hide their identity and contact their victims without being traced by the authorities. In this way, criminals can exploit victims’ online vul-nerabilities and commit extortion crimes without being identified or caught. It is not enough to know that an offense is criminal in nature and reflects a public danger and wrongdoing in order to investigate it. Unlike this characteristic, which expresses a set of elements of the corpus delicti of a particular criminal act (object, objective side, subject, subjective side), the forensic characteristic, based on the materials of law enforcement practice, establishes the essence, nature and specificity of the criminal act from a forensic point of view. |
