Among the problems observable at the level of society regarding the development of children, hyper-parenting has an increasing prevalence. Overprotective parents, perhaps pushed by the demands of our day, end up doing absolutely everything for their children. Excessive care certainly has a real basis coming from the multitude of dangers that exist in children's lives and, why not, from the pressure exerted by the expectations others have of their parents (relatives, neighbors, other parents, etc.). Also, overprotective parenting is often associated with children's anxious symptoms, especially in the long term which creates a real challenge in children's harmonious development. In Romania, things have changed a lot in the last decades, and this can be seen best in the urban or suburban environment. Children are given almost no freedom and this handicaps them both interpersonally and intrapersonally. In this article we want to highlight how overprotective parenting affects children's development and destroys their ability to think and act independently, both now and in the future. |
