Rezumat

At the beginning of the XVIII century the destiny of Moldova was marked by a new territorial rape effectuated by the Ottoman Empire. First the Hotin fortress and shortly after that the cohole region formed a new administrative and territorial unit directly subjected to the Ottoman Empire. The geographical placement of Hotin district placed in “the Islam House” had a great impact on the events taking place in this space. In the study below we have attempted to prove that the political circumstances also generated certain demographic processes with obvious repercussions on the economic evolution. Along the same line we have insisted to demonstrate that the rulers of the country did their utmost to obtain the status quo on the region although Moldova was under the suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire.
