Cultivation of the vine on purpose of obtaining raw material for wines was initiated at about
8000 years ago. Initial this employment had sporadic character, under which there had been practiced
gathering of grapes in forests, later there was started selection of the forms from forests and cultivation of
the latter round human settlements. Throughout the evolution the process of creation of various varieties
of the vine was predominantly infl uenced by natural selection, then successfully followed by artifi cial
selection. |
