Rezumat

Gagauz are a Turkish community living in the western end of the Turkish world, adopting Orthodox Christianity. The name Gagauz, which was first mentioned in the documents of the Russian census dated 1817, is mostly used as Gagauz in Turkey and in the world. There are also many claims and opinions about the historical roots and identity of the Gagauz people. On August 27, 1991, the Gagauzes declared their independence from the Moldavian SSR, the Soviet Union. With the 113th article added to the Moldovan Constitution, the Gagauz Autonomous Republic is recognized on 23 December 1994 and the right of the Gagauz Autonomous Republic is accepted. Gagauz Autonomous Republic has been a region where linguistic and cultural diversity is intense, especially since the USSR period. Although it was known that the region was a multinational country during the Soviet period, it was not known that many ethnic groups lived together. Depending on the dynamism in the historical process, Gagauz people have both been under the influence of Moldovan (Romanian), Bulgarian and Russian music cultures and have influenced them over the years. In this context, it is unclear whether linguistic repertoires always necessarily derive from lived experience or, as some studies have shown, linguistic biography resulting from movement across borders. It is crucial to understanding the skill with which Gagauz musicians operate within and between languages named for the meanings and identities they wish to project. It is important to be able to identify how multilingual and multicultural practices dialogue the traditional and the modern, the rural and the urban, and the interconnectedness of the local and transnational cultural worlds. In our study, we tried to identify the layered multidimensional structures of new ethnicity forms, fluid social identities and related multiple loyalties in Gagauz society. Thus, we think that beyond the fixed musical language practices in the geography where the Gagauz society lives, other rural languages in the surrounding area are effective in terms of change and interaction in musical elements. In this study, it is aimed to determine the musical identities of the Gagauz society, which continues its life as an Autonomous Republic in Moldova, in the context of the idea of performative multiple identity belongings in order to explain their fluent multilingual and multicultural discourses, since they interact with other languages spoken around them.
