Gagauz written literature, which is an integral part of Turkic literature, like every literature, takes its origins from oral folk art, which inspires not only ordinary people, but also poets and writers who exhausted an armful of inspiration from folk songs, limericks, fairy tales, epics, legends and other genres. The classic of Gagauz literature, the poet and prose writer Stepan Kuroglo, in his poems, reflecting his love for the Gagauz people very subtly and skillfully used these genres, and sometimes combined them with his works, thereby giving them a new life. Limericks, proverbs and idioms often served as a reflection of the poet’s spirit. Stepan Kuroglo was a wordsmith not only in this case. He was intimately familiar with the literature of the Turkic world. Azerbaijani, Turkish, Tatar, Kazakh and other Turkic languages were not alien to him. During the literary meetings, the poet not only shared his knowledge in this area, but also managed to instill love to Gagauz literature. This is especially clearly expressed in the poems, that reflect some of the classics of Azerbaijani literature. |
