Rezumat

Amongst the great Hierarchs who led the diocese of Huși during the eighteenth century, Bishop Inochentie (1752-1782) stands out by his virtues, his spiritual life, his thorough education and his great accomplishments as a founder. Born in a village neighbouring Roman, spiritually shaped at Putna Monastery and an intimate friend of Metropolitan Iacob Putneanul from the time of the latter`s ministry in Rădăuți, Vladica Inochentie exhibited excellent administrative skills, a great ardour for the sacred matters and practical inclinations typical for founders, keeping good watch and ward of the diocesan estate and diligently tending to the inheritance of the Diocese of Huși. Several annexes were built under his management around the cathedral: monks`s chambers, kitchen, bakery, the fountains, a catechetic school etc. His greatest achievement, however, is the Episcopal Cathedral „The Holy Apostles Peter and Paul”, which he rebuilt from the ground on the old foundations dating back to Ștefan cel Mare, and which he would subsequently endow with several gifts, among them a splendid bell. In the aftermath of the Russian-Turkish war of 1769, Bishop Inochentie was appointed to lead the Moldavian delegation to Petersburg, and was received by Tsarina Ecaterina, who offered him a few gifts. Beside his pastoral and missionary work, Bishop Inochentie distinguished himself as a man of culture, by promoting the printing of books and establishing a school supported by the Bishopric, and also as a philanthropist, by his contribution to the Spiridoniada in Iași. After thirty years of prolific activity, Bishop Inochentie departed to the Lord on October the 1st 1782 and was buried in the Episcopal Cathedral in Huși.
