The intensive development of the information technologies, which have an enormous influence on the privacy, has brought to the attention of international community the personal data protection area. This article aims to highlight the way the field of personal data protection is envisaged by the international society and namely within the international organizations. There will be described the main relevant acts issued by such bodies like Council of Europe, European Union, United Nations, OECD. Also, it will not be left aside mentioning the acts of international justice courts and forums. The article presents an analysis that furnishes, thus, a valuable background in systematizing the international provisions of the personal data protection domain with a view of coordinating the efforts at the national level to align the practices and regulations to international standards.
