Rezumat

Architect Alexander Bernardazzi left an impressive imprint on the current image of Chisinau, designing several buildings. Bernardazzi's creation includes secular and church buildings, as well as metal fences, tombs, funerary monuments, thus demonstrating a plurivalent nature. The forged pieces attested in the buildings designed by Bernardazzi reveal the artistic style and the predilections of the Bessarabian elite towards the pieces that are directly related to their own home and social buildings. The aim of the present article is to examine the pieces of hardware identified in the buildings constructed according to the A. Bernardazzi architectural designs, most of them being poured at S. Serbov's foundry. In this way, an original tandem is outlined – the architect A. Bernardazzi and the engineer S. Serbov, who worked within the same time periods, hence a potential collaboration, a certain interdependence between works, which contributed to the appearance of emblematic buildings for the city. This facet practically did not fall into the field of view of researchers from the history and fine arts area. Our aim is to examine the joint architectural and engineering works in order to emphasize their importance for the national cultural heritage. Secular and church buildings, small architectural constructions, as well as documented metal pieces need to be artistically restored, protected by the state, valued and promoted as a part of Chisinau and the Republic of Moldova heritage.
