One of the consequences of occupation of Bessarabia, North Bucovina and Herța County by the Soviet Union, in the summer of 1940, was the mass deportation, in several stages (1941, 1949, 1951), of tens of thousands of inhabitants from these territories in the Eastern and Northern regions of the Soviet Empire. In this study, the author aims to analyze autobiographical writings and memoirs in which the deportees recount their exile experience to Kazakhstan. We will highlight the aspects about of climate, land-forms and geographical conditions, how did the deportees adapt to the new conditions of life, what strategies have worked in this sense, for what to discern, and finally, the factors that helped some of them to survive.
