The human speech is used by some powerful persons/group of persons to veil reality and manipulate the masses. This objective is achieved by some psychological and linguistic instruments and strategies. From amongst the linguistic strategies we will mention: the repetition and the increased frequency of the meaningless phrases usage, the unwillingness or the laziness to look for other words, the presentation of words unknown to the masses (semantic vacuum), the use of a technocratic code; taboo words, etc. the linguistic devices are numerous, we will mention only the ones which refer to “langue de bois”: lexical, grammatical, stylistic forms. The notion of meliorative substitution is used in psycholinguistics and is based on the concept of subjectivity and emotivity. The words and phrases of the political and media discourse which appeared through the medium of the meliorative substitution devices have a large circulation in mass media. The skillful and frequent use of these phrases can bring about “pseudo-communication”, a distortion of the communication function of the human speech.

Limbajul uman serveşte unor persoane/unui grup de persoane cu o mare autoritate sau cu o forţă coercitivă pentru mascarea realităţii şi manipularea maselor în defavoarea lor. Acestui scop îi servesc unele înstrumente şi strategii psihologice şi lingvistice. Din arsenalul strategiilor lingvistice vom menţiona: repetarea şi marea frecvenţă de folosire a unor expresii vide de sens, lipsa de dorinţă sau lenea de a căuta alte cuvinte, prezentarea de cuvinte necunoscute de mase (vacuum semantic), utilizarea unui cod tehnocrat, cuvinte decretate tabu etc. Procedeele lingvistice sunt numeroase, vom numi doar unele care se referă la limba de lemn: forme lexicale, gramaticale, stilistice. Noţiunea de substituire melioralivă este utilizată în psiholingvistică şi se bazează pe conceptul de subiectivitate şi emotivitate. Cuvinte şi expresii ale discursului politico-mediatic apărute prin mijlocirea procedeelor de substituire meliorativă au o circulaţie frecventă în mass media. Folosirea abilă şi frecventă a cestor expresii poate să producă o “pseudocomunicare”, o distorsiune a funcţiei de comunicare a limbajului uman.
