Man cannot ignore or exclude the politics in his life, especially if there are rumours about great events: armed conflicts, wars, etc. These events are affecting greatly the destiny of the individual and leave traces in his language and, being a writer, in his works as well. The article gathers observations regarding Virgil Gheorghiu and Vintilă Horia’s work and the “traces” left by the politics that they have lived, in their famous works “The 25th hour” (translated
in over 30 languages) and “God was born in exile” (Goncourt Prize, 1960). One can observe, on the one hand, that these two writers illustrate the one and the same political reality of the time in a total different way (testimony in Gheorghiu’s case and fiction in Horia’s), and on the other hand, that each one of them, deeply affected by these new political phenomena, searched for ways of expressing and totally new procedures to depict them in their works. |
