In the end of the 13th century, in the Danube delta appeared some market towns, one of them being Chilia, surrounded by water. This locality was economically convenient placed, but not geo-politically, because it was at the state’s margin. During the centuries, some foreign states reigned over it for a short time. In the time of Moldova’s ruler Alexander the Good, Moldova’s influence in the region increases; in 1412, according to the Lublau tractate, Chilia is noted along with other Moldova’s cities, becoming a part of Moldova Principality. After Constantinople’s fall, the political situation mutates and Chilia becomes again change for that time’s powers. With the Sthephen the Great’s enthroning, the situation mutates again: during the first years of his reign, he returns Chilia to his country. The military life of the fortress – situated in the intersection of great powers’ interests – was always dynamic, its’ history being a part of our people’s history. This important historical accomplishment, achieved by Stephen the Great, was destroyed during Tzarist and Sovietic dominations. |
