Background. Origanum vulgare, a medicinal and aromatic species is important due to its antibacterial, antioxidant, antiviral, antifungal properties, supported by the complex chemical composition. In the Republic of Moldova the species is represented by the suspicions O. vulgare subsp vulgar (Ovv) and O. vulgare subsp hirtum (Ovh). Objective of the study. Identification and determination of the total phenolic compounds in O. vulgare genotypes belonging to both subspecies (Ovv, Ovh), these being created at IGFPP. Material and Methods. Were evaluated 7 Ovv genotypes and 8 Ovh genotypes. Dried extracts were obtained by fractional maceration with shaking. Phenolic compounds were identified by thin layer chromatography. Total polyphenols were determined spectrophotometrically. Results. Rutoside, hyperoside and caffeic acid were identified in Ov ssp. vulgare and Ov ssp. hirtum genotypes analysed. The total polyphenol content, expressed as gallic acid equivalent, was higher in dried extracts of Ov ssp. vulgare (51, 67-68.50 mg GA/g dry extract) compared to dried extracts of Ov ssp. hirtum (35.57-49.52 mg GA/g dry extract. The total hydroxycinnamic acids, were higher in the plant products of Ov ssp. hirtum genotypes (4.65-6.48%) compared to the plant products of Ov ssp. vulgare (3.68-4.73%). Conclusion. The plant and extractive products of Ovv and Ovh genotypes, developed in the RM, require chemical and biological studies in order to be used as phytotherapeutic products in the pharmaceutical industry and as preservatives in the food industry. Research was carried out within the project of the State Program 20.80009.5107.07 |
