Background. Digestive manifestations in Covid-19 infection can be induced by the direct action of the virus or by autoimmune hyperergic reactions triggered by the interaction of vascular endothelium with ACE-2 receptors on gastric, duodenal, intestinal epithelial cells. Objective of the study. elucidation of the particularities of the digestive clinical signs in the hospitalized patients with Covid-19 infection in the Pediatrics I subdivision with gastroenterological profile in IMSP SCMC „ Valentin Ignatenco”. Material and Methods. 463 medical records of patients discharged with confirmed Covid-19 infection were analyzed retrospectively between May and August 2020. All patients were examined clinically and paraclinically by classical methods with SARS-CoV-2 RNA testing using chain reaction with reverse transcription-polymerase (RT-PCR) in nasopharyngeal smear. Results. Between May and August 2020, a total of 463 patients were discharged, of which 175 were confirmed with Covid-19 infection. The age of the patients was as follows: 1-5 years - 54 children; 6-10 years - 32 children; 11-15 years - 32 children,> 16 years - 62 children. 45 (25.7%) patients showed digestive signs: diarrhea - 9 (5.14%); vomit -5 (2.85%); nausea - 7 (3.99%); abdominal pain - 14 (7.99%); loss of appetite - 6 (3.42%), liver damage - 4 (2.28%) patients. Conclusion. The digestive tract is the main extrapulmonary target of SARS - CoV-2 infection with 25.7% of children infected with Covid-19, expressed by abdominal pain in 14 children (7.99%) and diarrhea in 9 children (5.14% |
