Background. Lactose intolerance caused by lactase deficiency in the body occurs in almost all world countries, but its spread varies depending on age, geographical regions, ethnicity. Objective of the study. Analysis and evaluation of bibliographic data to establish the population’s distribution with lactose intolerance according to age and geographical areas. Material and Methods. The study is based on the analysis of bibliographic sources in the country and abroad regarding lactose intolerance. There were studied of 25 bibliographic references published in the years 2005-2020 in the following languages: English, Russian and Romanian. The search of scientific research was performed in the following databases: PubMed, CyberLeninka, NCBI. Results. The concentration of lactase decreases with age. In newborns, after weaning it decreases. The lactose concentration for 40-59 years old adults decrease with 15%, for those over 60 years- 50%. Lactase activity varies depending on the world’s regions and countries because of the distribution of lactase phenotypes. The frequency of lactase persistence is 99% in the Swedish population, 100% in the Netherlands. In African countries, South-American, Southeast Asia it is low. In Pakistan lactose intolerance is found in 60% of the population, in China- 90%, in Thailand is higher. In the Republic of Moldova it is at the level of neighboring countries (16-23%). Conclusion. Lactose intolerance is more prevalent in Southeast Asian countries, on the African continent, but in Northeastern Europe, it is low. In the Republic of Moldova, lactose intolerance spread is practically at the same level as in most neighboring countries, being higher in the elderly. |
