Background. The World Health Organization on March 11, 2020, declared the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a global pandemic. Due to its rapid spread and its associated high mortality rate, the pandemic has caused public health challenges worldwide with the healthcare system being overwhelmed. Objective of the study. To study the stress levels of healthcare staff in the context of COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods. This present paper is a cross-sectional study, which was conducted via the sociological method. A Google Form questionnaire was completed by 54 healthcare workers, auxiliary and administrative staff from various medical institutions from the Republic of Moldova. The questionnaire included 16 items. Results. Of the total number of respondents, 64.8% were women, aged between 20 and 30 years old (63.0%). Half of the respondents were nurses, 27.8% - physicians, 5.6% - doctor technicians, and the rest of both administrative and auxiliary staff. Most healthcare workers (64.8%) have a shift work. The highest stress level (10 points out of 10 possible) was reported in 35.2% of respondents. Most respondents (87.0%) were primarily concerned about the health of their dearest. The most common complain mentioned by the interviewed (in 68.5% of respondents) was the sleep wake disorder. Conclusion. The COVID-19 pandemic caused high levels of stress in a large number of healthcare workers. |
