Rezumat

The late 1950s are important for both Latvian and Moldavian SSR (as W. Prigge remarked) because of the significant spike of the CC’s members renewal. My purpose is to deal less with the reasons which determined the possible purges. My interest is to show how large the transfers, removals, and purges of the first echelon cadres were. For me the two milestones are set in 1958 and 1963 Congresses. At the VIIth Congress in late January 1958 were approved the new CC, candidates, and Revision Commission. It was not radically different from mid-1950s establishment. If to compare with the CC in 1963, the differences are huge. From 91 CC members of 1958, only 16 reached the collective of 99 members in 1963. One of the 1958 members was pushed down to candidates (S.V. Tsaranov). Only one of candidates in 1958 (V.A. Khrenov) was CC member in 1963. None of his other 34 colleagues’ candidates were at the top 5 years later. From 19 members of Revision Commission in 1958, only one (D. Perzhan) still was in that office in 1963. An exception was F.S. Epur, member of CC in 1958, the chief of Revision Commission in 1963 (23 members). The nomenklatura changes between 1958 and 1963 are overhelming. What was this – generational succession, removal for National mistakes/„Nationalism” (approach of W. Prigge who links it with other all-Union events, Daina Bleiere), deep faction clashes or the instauration of what could be called „Bodyul’s guards?” Whenether which one of these would be, the signal for purges came on April 14-15, 1959. The 2nd secretary D. Gkladkiy was transferred to another job and I. Anikanov was upgraded to CC’s secretary. Soon it will come also the turn of Tkach, Koditsa, Skutul and others, to be discharged. On the same day into Bureau were introducesd E. Postovoy and V. Buga, relatively young, but both will be „transferred” in a couple of years. P. Kranga was removed from head of Administrative organs section (Sovetskaya Moldaviya, April 16, 1958). My purpose is to show how all these removals reached a huge scale as Z. Serdyuk was leaving step by step the position and authority of the republic’s first secretary. The paper would be based on archive documents, press reports and analysis of the charts of changings of the Party first echelon from 1958 up to 1963.
