Rezumat

The rose is an important flowery culture in Moldova. Nearly 50% of the cultivated roses are combined plants, which constitute from the graft and mother plant(stock) with different genotype. Mother plants determine the discord in the favor of the graft, suggest the production of the cytoquinines and it’s export to the stem, affecting in this way the grafted bud and the growth of the offshoot. Firstly, in order to keep the main feature of the midget roses – the reduced habitus – we investigated the nature of the mother plant. The relation between the mother plant and the graft plays a very important role in the growth and development of the roses. There are a lot of debates in the whole world about the advantages and disadvantages of various mother plants. A special influence have the mother plants during the period of flourishing and productivity during the winter time. It is considered that, the species that are always green, and which comes from Asia, do not need the period of repose, in compare with European species. Rosa canina also does not need an endogen period of repose and the restraint in the growth that was noticed at this specie is only because of arid climate from the republic. Different species of wild roses have distinct features from the cultured ones through a different dynamic period of the development during the year, as a example is Rosa indica Major, that growth intensively late in the autumn, and not so much in the spring (in compare with Rosa canina). That’s why the grafting on this mother plant is made at the beginning of February. The mother plants are selected for the capacity of making roots [1], the resistance to the illnesses and pests, the capacity of supporting permanently the harvest of the offshoots, compatibly with different cultures of roses, the adequate behavior to the conditions of the environment [2]. A great influence have the mother plants on the habitus of the Miniature Roses. The species that are engrafted on the Rosa canina have a bigger height, grow vigorously, till 50 – 55 cm. For example, Baby masquarade, Avon, has a higher resistance to the frost due to this mother plant. If we engraft on the Rosa multiflora, the plants have a longer period of flourishing, have medium size in the height. The miniature size is transmitted through multiplication of the roses through vegetative method. Specially for this feature are appreciated the roses for containers.
