Specifically, Romania’s trade deficit in 2010 stood at around 9.46 billion Euros, that is 5 per cent less than in 2009. Exports stood at 27.25 billion Euros, 28 per cent more, while imports accounted for 46.71 billion Euros, which is almost 20 per cent more than in the previous year. Worth mentioning is the fact that that the trade with the EU countries accounted for 72 per cent of Romania’s import and export figures. The Secretary General of Romania’s National Exporters and Importers Association. As early as November 2010 we managed to have a cumulated exports volume that in 11 months accounted for the Romanian exports volume in 2008, which is the year before the crisis. That was the reason why in late 2010 the Romanian exports got out of the crisis. Yet why the Romanian exports overcoming the crisis does not coincide with Romania’s entire economy getting out of the crisis, that is another problem. Indeed, the export is an engine of the entire economy; it’s just that the economy has more than one engine, which means investments, domestic consumption, as well as other components of the GDP. The Romanian exports account for about half of Romania’s GDP. Which means that the other three quarters of the GDP, the other sectors that contribute to the GDP were not extremely effective in 2010. |
