Rezumat

The present article has the main aim to investigate the students' attitudes towards reading, the reasons why they do not read, and what their reading preferences are. As a result of the research we found that the reasons why students do not want to read are: their involvement in other activities such as playing or using their phones, tablets or computers. Students would rather listen to or read short stories, stories, memories, followed by scientific and historical books, poetry. Teachers frequently use written and oral communication methods to develop interest in reading. Reading competence should be considered the essential condition of the pupil's success in school and in life, as it provides him with access to general and specialized knowledge
