Background. Leakage of colonic anastomosis is a major postoperative complication associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Despite the performance of contemporary surgery, the incidence of anastomotic leakage has no significant decreasing tendency. Objective of the study. Assessing of the efficacy of local using of collagen patches on the anastomotic line to prevent leakage. Material and Methods. 42 rats were divided in two groups: colonic anastomosis was performed and topical collagen patch was applied in the group I (n=21); anastomosis without protection in the group II (n=21). The evaluation of the anastomotic area was performed on the 3rd, 7th and 14th day postoperatively. The abdominal adhesion process and the bursting pressure of the anastomosis were appreciated. Results. On the 3rd and 7th postoperative day, the non-significant intensification of the adhesion process was demonstrated, with the subsequent regression on the 14th day. The adhesion process was more expressed in group I vs group II (NS). The statistically significant increasing of the bursting pressure of the anastomosis from the 3rd to the 7th postoperative day was demonstrated. The bursting pressure of the anastomosis was higher in group I vs group II (NS). Conclusion. Using of collagen patch for prevention of colonic anastomosis leakage increases non-significant the bursting pressure of anastomosis and adhesion abdominal process. The application of collagen patch to prevent the anastomotic leakage does not improve the postoperative results. |
