Background. Vulnerability is a characteristic of the human condition that have various aspects. Application of bioethics in the analysis of the concept of vulnerability is guided by the need to establish an integral image of it with possibilities of real applications in clinical medical activity. Objective of the study. Configuring bioethical landmarks of vulnerability in the medical system. Material and Methods. It includes the synthesis of various scientific materials in the field of bioethics and medicine, identified in the databases: PubMed, MedLine, JSTOR. The analytical and comparative methods were mainly used. Results. 24 papers were included in the final synthesis. The manifestation of vulnerability in the medical act concerns three dimensions: 1) the human body is characterized by physical vulnerability in dynamics; 2) susceptibility to side effects may be accompanied by emotional vulnerability; 3) limited knowledge about health can lead to cognitive vulnerability. It is the task of bioethics to achieve the symmetry between the vulnerable person and the medical professional who must be able to provide the expected support. Conclusion. The bioethical approach to vulnerability contributes to updating the targeted concept for medical activity as a whole. The analysis of the types and degree of vulnerability advances the task of identifying the level of vulnerability of the person, as well as the process of its mitigation. |
