Background. Moldova is a country known with an abusive consumption of alcohol which in 2003 was on the 4th place in Europe according to the level of consumption of alcoholic products. This fact has a major economic and social impact on the society. Objective of the study. Highlight and analyze the particularities of sociomedical impact of alcohol consumption in the population of the Republic of Moldova. Material and Methods. We conducted a study during the years 2018-2020, on a group of 260 people (46% -men, 54% -women), the average age of the interviewees is between 20 and 50 years, being working age, of which 83.5% accept alcohol products within the norm, 9.4% use excessive alcohol and 7.1% don’t use alcoholic products. Results. 43.2% of the interviewees use alcoholic beverages with a frequency of 2-3 times a month, followed by 33.3% of people who rarely use alcoholic beverages (23 times a year) but there are also 13.6% who consume alcohol daily. Republic of Moldova is characterized by unlicensed production of alcohol, from the study we deducted that 27% of respondents produce the alcohol at home. The reasons that lead to alcohol consumption are multiple but the most relevant were meeting with friends/neighbors (59.3%), family events (53.1%), and for relaxing (37%). During years, high alcohol consumption leads to social problems both in family as well as in society. Conclusion. Alcohol abuse, both nationally and internationally, is a major public health issue. The social impact is reflected in the majority of population who abuses alcohol. |
