Rezumat

The history of Casso family is remarkable not only because the members of this family played an important role in Bessarabia in the 19th century, but as well as for the model for civil procedure in which the local nobility is the part of. Casso Family (Constantin and Acrivia with two sons - Ioan and Stefan) came to Bessarabia from Greece together with the ruler Mihail Suţo III in 1793. During this year the head of the family, Constantin Casso, received the rank of great caminar ( a debt collector of sorts) from the ruler for loyal service. His younger son, Stefan Casso, was awarded with this rank by Mihail IV Suţo, this gave him the possibility to e one of the noblemen in Bessarabia. His request has been registered and accepted by the Assembly of Bessarabia's Deputies in 1826. Because of some disagreements with the merchant Dimitrie Zazo and his brother-in-law, Egor Leonard, respected deputy in the Assembly of Bessarabia's Deputies, the nobility title has been drawn for Stefan Casso, the allegations were that he was not of noblemen descend, that he falsified the documents and that he tricked his business partners. Still, the proof presented by Stefan Casso with the ruler's stamp and signature, testimonies of the land owners and nobility that knew him, the data offered by the police, the investigation made by the Marshal of Bessarabia province Egor Alexandovici Bals, took precedence over reports that defamed the honor of Stephen Casso, thus confirming the nobility status of Casso in 1856. Stefan Casso was married to Alexandra (Ruxanda) Pavlovna Leonard. He had 4 kids: Constantin, Aristid, Nicolai and Elena. His sons were students at Riselie from Odessa high school; they were very educated and knowledgeable. Constantin died at an early age. Aristid was married to Alexandra Biazo-Mavro and had 2 children - Leonardo and Alexandra. Nicolae was married to Smaranda Dimitrie Bantis. Both Aristid, and especially Nicolae participated in the cultural, political and socio-economical life of Bessarabia like true patriots, nationalists, philanthropists, people-oriented, supporting the local peasants, and collaborating with valuable intellectuals. Leon Casso, son of Aristid, became one of the most prominent personalities of the Tsarist Empire in the beginning of 20th century. Thereby, we can conclude, that Casso family belongs to the lines of socio-political elite of Bessarabia during Tsarist period.
