For many years in several countries, including Israel, there has not been gender equality in math achievement, and girls rarely specialize and realize their abilities in exact sciences. A primary explanation for these gender differences is society’s attitudes. The present study examined the attitudes among boys and girls in fifth – ninth grades in religious schools in Israel. The findings showed that both boys and girls in Israel, expressed egalitarian attitudes and often did not agree that there are gender differences in math. Also, both genders showed a similar positive attitude toward mathematics and their ability to succeed and to develop a career in this profession. |
