In this article we propose to present an attempt to enter into the essence of the issue of the zoomorphic symbol in the poetry of Dumitru Matcovschi. We mention that the symbol is not a generally valid convention, it is not a universal means of representing the world. The symbol is fluctuating and dependent on the context in which it operates, it always responds to a mentality, to a knowledge that gives it a certain meaning valid only in that cultural, historical, political, ideological climate that generates it. The same animal symbol can send different messages, sometimes diametrically opposed, depending on the context in which it was placed.
