The diffusion of methyl salicylate (MeSA) in a peach orchard was studied within a range of 12 m. Two groups of insects, comprising the intensely attracted to MeSA orders Hymenoptera and Thysanoptera were selected as the indicators of MeSA bioaction. It was demonstrated that volatile MeSA can influence a wide area in the orchard, at least 12 m. MeSA was found to attract insects at a distance of 12 m up to 2.0 times more than in the control. The plantation topography has an impact on the distribution MeSA. An increased amount of attracted insects was detected downhill |
