Rezumat

The initiative for a universal encyclopedia project faces the dilemma either to incorporate exhaustive or representative knowledge. Considering the current explosive development of knowledge, a judicious option is the solution which favors representativeness and selectiveness of sciences’ products, and arts. Also, a representative knowledge corpus imposes a comprehensive exercise to interpret the scientific and artistic achievements. It leads towards a selection and thematic arrangement that would configure the content as a cultural model which is anchored in historicity and follows a progressive trajectory. Herein, another dilemma demands attention. It is the opportunity/applicability of certain methods/theories of interpretation (subtilitas: subtilitas explicandi, subtilitas intelligendi and subtilitas applicandi – A. H. Francke, J. J. Rambach, J. A. Ernesti etc.) versus a metaphysical attitude towards methods/scientism (M. Eliade). The imperative construction of resonant encyclopedic content demands ways of interpreting a world with a paradoxical, dualistic condition of things – both simple and as elements with hidden meanings.
