Cette étude porte sur les particularités de l’adaptation pragmatique dans la traduction française du roman Maitreyi de Mircea Eliade écrit en roumain. L’actualité du thème consiste dans la réalisation d’une recherche sur les méthodes de traduction d’une oeuvre roumaine dans une langue de circulation internationale. La tendance de la Roumanie et de la République de Moldova à promouvoir la culture roumaine, implique aussi la promotion de la littérature nationale et des écrivains qui en font partie. Le renommé de Mircea Eliade dans le monde prouve la demande actuelle d’analyser la manière dont ses oeuvres ont été traduites et de déterminer la pertinence des traductions réalisées. Les hypothèses de cette étude sont les suivantes: les romans se caractérisent par une approche traductive étroitement liée à leur typologie; l’adaptation pragmatique influence le message et le sens d’un texte littéraire; les realia demandent l’utilisation de l’adaptation en tant que technique de traduction. Notre approche accentue la nécessité de recourir à l’adaptation pragmatique pour la traduction des realia et pour la transmission d’une langue vers une autre des éléments qui font partie de la réalité socioculturelle d’un peuple. De même, nous analysons les ambiguïtés qui apparaissent lors de la traduction inappropriée de ces aspects, et nous proposons des solutions pour surmonter ces difficultés de traduction. Cette activité d’analyse a été centrée sur l’identification des realia du roman et du choix fait par le traducteur pour transmettre en français l’information socioculturelle qu’ils véhiculent.

The following study is focused on the peculiarities of pragmatic adaptation in the translation of the novel Maitrey by Mircea Eliade from Romanian into French. The actuality of the topic consists of the methods used in the translation of a Romanian literary work into an international language. Romania and the Republic of Moldova’s tendency to promote the national culture also implies the promotion of the national literature and writers. Mircea Eliade’s renommé on the international arena proves the current need to analyze the way in which his literary works have been translated and to determine the relevance of the translated works. The hypotheses of this study are the following: the novels are characterized by a specific approach to translation studies and their translation peculiarities are strictly related to their typology; the pragmatic adaptation influences the message and the meaning of a literary text; the culture-bound words require the use of adaptation as a translation technique. Our approach stresses the need to use pragmatic adaptation in order to translate the culture-bound words and to transfer elements belonging to a nation’s socio-cultural reality from one language into another one. At the same time, we aim at analyzing the ambiguities that may appear due to an inappropriate translation of these aspects and suggest solutions for such translation difficulties. This activity of analysis is focused on identifying culture-bound words in the novel and the translator’s choice to transmit their socio-cultural information in the target-language (French).
