The rights of the child are human rights, with the aim of protecting the child as a human being. Thus, like human rights in general, the rights of the child, in order to be effective, must be guaranteed and protected, an important role being played by the Committee on the Rights of the Child, which oversees, through various procedures and actions, the realization of these rights in the signatory states. Convention. The Convention attaches equal importance to all the rights of the child. There is no hierarchy of these rights, these rights are indivisible and interdependent and cover all aspects of the child's life. These rights are: the right to identity (states the need to register the child at birth, the right to a nationality); the right to health (the right to food, hygiene, social security, a decent standard of living); the right to protection (stated in various situations - refugee status, work, drugs, sexual exploitation, trafficking, deprivation of liberty, social reintegration, juvenile justice - and accompanied by the need for social programs); the right to participate - refers to the protection and guarantee of freedom of expression, access to information, freedom of thought, conscience, religion, freedom of association and assembly, protection of privacy; the right to education - is stated in art. 28, 29 (purpose of education).

Drepturile copilului sunt drepturi ale omului, având ca scop protejarea copilului ca ființă umană. Astfel, ca și drepturile omului, în general, drepturile copilului, pentru a fi efective, trebuie garantate și protejate, un rol important revenind în acest sens Comitetului pentru drepturile copilului care supraveghează, prin diferite proceduri și acțiuni, realizarea acestor drepturi în statele semnatare ale Convenției. Convenția acordă o importanță egală tuturor drepturilor copilului. Nu există o ierarhie a acestora, aceste drepturi sunt indivizibile și interdependente și acoperă toate aspectele vieții copilului. Aceste drepturi sunt: dreptul la identitate (afirmă necesitatea înregistrării copilului la naștere, dreptul la o naționalitate); dreptul la sănătate (dreptul la hrană, igienă, securitate socială, nivel de viață decent); dreptul la protecție (enunțat în diferite ipostaze – statut de refugiat, muncă, droguri, exploatare sexuală, trafic, privare de libertate, reinserție socială, justiție pentru minori – și însoțit de necesitatea de programe sociale); dreptul la participare – se referă la protecția și garantarea libertății de exprimare, acces la informații, libertatea de gândire, de conștiință, de religie, libertatea de asociere și reuniune, protecția vieții private; dreptul la educație – este enunțat în art. 28, 29 (scopul educației).
