Rezumat

A solid and well-supervised banking system in fulfilling basic functions is a convincing premise for sustainable economic growth. The basis of the stability of the banking system is the trust, both from the investors and from clients of the commercial banks. Lack of trust generates crises, and occurs when the relationship between the commercial bank and the client is lacking in transparency and the disclosure of information is limited. In the absence of transparent information on the real situation in the banking system, supervisory bodies can’t make a sound decision on collective financial stability. On the other hand, the consumer can’t make clear decisions to guarantee full confidence and positive financial prospects. As a result, the transparency of the Republic of Moldova commercial banks' shareholding plays a pivotal role in assuring confidence in the banking system and improving the image of our banking sector. Transparency is, therefore, the mechanism that can provide commercial banks, adequately informing their customers, sustainable development and penalizing those who carry out an obscure activity. In this context, it is important to determine the vulnerability of the banking sector to the transparency of the commercial banks shareholders.
