In 1992, the National Museum of History of Moldova enriched its heritage with a collection of photographs dated back to 1880-1975 and which refer to the history of the noble family Leviţki and the family of the priest Gacikevici, families related to each other. The collection was donated by Ariadna Gacikevici (born Sondans) from the village of Cojuşna, Străşeni district, a descendant of the Leviţki family on the maternal line. The well-known singer of Russian, Romanian and Gypsy romances, Ala Baianova is descendant of the Leviţki family. Her father Nicolai was born in the family of Leonard Egorovici and Nadejda Ivanovna Leviţki. The museum has a photograph of the Leviţki family in which the children are at a very young age. The renowned artist is also represented in some photos from this collection. Nicolai’s sister, Eugenia Levitki, appears on two other original pictures dated back to the ‚90ies of the 19th century made in workshops in Odessa. The heritage of the museum preserves an original image of the Gacikevici family, dated to the beginning of the 20th century. Gheorghe Gacikevici, son of Semion, will marry Ariadna Sondans, the daughter of Alexandru and Eugenia Sondans (born Leviţki). A portrait of Ariadna Sondans, made at the high school graduation, is part of the museum’s collection of photographs. In this collection there is a photo, from the description of which we find out that a brother of Adam Mickiwevicz lived in Chişinău. Studying the biography of the Polish poet Adam Bernard Mickiewicz (1798-1855), we found put that he had four brothers. More information is known about three of them, while very little is known about Kazimiersz Jersy (Juras), a younger brother of the poet, who could have arrived in Bessarabia. Future research might offer more information on whether any of Adam Mickiewicz’s relatives lived in Chişinău. The collection of photos preserved in the museum heritage allowed us to reveal some aspects of the history of a noble family in Bessarabia, which gave personalities known all over the world. This study offers also interesting facts about the less known family members who managed to created themselves a name into the Romanian and Soviet Moldavian society. |
