Rezumat

The paper represents an overview of the latest developments achieved under the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal which concern the chemicals listed in the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). The summarized data contain the background information and the joint points covered within the scientific and technical matters, namely, in the updated technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of wastes consisting of, containing or contaminated with the new POPs. It is highlighted the amendments related to the chemicals newly listed in the Stockholm Convention on POPs, including a brief description of their properties and possible use, production and wastes. It is emphasized the relevance of the joint questions for the both conventions, i.e. establishment of the levels of destruction and irreversible transformation for the chemicals and establishment of the concentration levels of the chemicals in order to define for them low persistent organic pollutant content. The conclusion reflects the status of the documents after their consideration at the triple Conferences of the Parties in 2015, as well as the decisions opening new possibilities for the countries to involve national institutions and experts to share their knowledge about newly listed POPs and experience with the implementation of low POP content.
