Rezumat

The double is considered to be a recurrent theme and it can be identified in numerous literary texts. But it is seldom designed as a maze which both the characters and the readers have to closely observe in order to discover the special structure of the narration. We believe this type of double was highlighted by Jorge Luis Borges and, as a literary follower, was reinstituted in his texts by Haruki Murakami. The two authors change the essence of the doppelganger and present it more as an initiation milestone rather than a simple intrigue tool. This paper’s objective is to familiarize the public with the motif of the double in Haruki Murakami’s three novels based on using existing concepts and theories formulated by literary scientists and on personal post reading impressions.
