The role of the vine grape variety is essential in the development of the wine sector, because it determines the quality and characteristics of grapes and wine. Choosing the right variety for a specific wine region can significantly influence the quality of grapes and wine produced in that region. In addition, grape varieties can also influence plant resistance to diseases and pests, as well as adaptation to climate and soil conditions specific to the growing region. In the Republic of Moldova, there are a variety of grape varieties grown in different wine-growing regions. Among the most important grape varieties used in wine production in the Republic of Moldova are Fetească Albă, Fetească Neagră, Rara Neagră, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Moldova, Codreanca, Cardinal, Presentable and others. The choice of grape variety is important not only for the quality of the grapes and the wine produced, but also for the characteristics of the region itself. In the Republic of Moldova, for example, there are regions with specific climatic conditions, e.g.: such as the Cricova region, which is known for its sparkling wines, or the Purcari region, known for its high-quality red wines. Also, local varieties are particularly important for the wine sector in the Republic of Moldova, because they can provide special and unique characteristics to the wine produced in the respective region, which can increase its added value and competitiveness on the global market. In conclusion, the choice of the grape variety is a key factor in the development of the wine sector in the Republic of Moldova and in ensuring the quality and unique characteristics of the grapes and the wine produced in the Republic. Therefore, the cultivation and promotion of local varieties and the adaptation of international varieties to the specific conditions of the wine-growing regions of the Republic of Moldova can significantly contribute to the development of the wine sector in Moldova. |
