The Republic of Moldova is one of the oldest wine-growing regions in Europe, with a wine-growing tradition of over 2000 years. According to the National Bank of Moldova, the Republic of Moldova has a vineyard area of about 117,5 thousand hectares, and grapes are one of the country's main agricultural crops. In the Republic of Moldova, there are numerous viticultural regions and micro-regions, each with its unique characteristics of soil, climate and grape varieties. The wine-growing regions of the Republic of Moldova are: Codru Region - It is the largest and the most important wine-growing region in the Republic of Moldova. It is located in the center of the republic and includes the central districts of Moldova - Ialoveni, Străşeni, Nisporeni, Călăraşi, Ungheni, Criuleni, Hânceşti, etc. The Codru region is known for white grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, which produce fresh and aromatic wines. Valul lui Traian region - It is located in the southwestern part of the republic and includes the districts of Cahul, Cantemir, Comrat, Vulcăneşti, Leova, Ceadîr-Lunga, etc. This wine-growing region is recognized for its red grape varieties, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, etc. This terroir produces robust wines with aromas of black fruits and spicy aromas. Ștefan Vodă Region - It is located in the southeastern part of the Republic of Moldova and includes the districts of Ștefan Vodă, Căușeni, Cimișlia, etc. This wine-growing region is known for red grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, which produce elegant and aromatic wines. At the same time, within each region there are known a number of vineyards and wine-growing centers with particular characteristics. These are just a few of the important wine-growing regions in the Republic of Moldova, and each of them has its own unique characteristics and produces grapes and wines of high quality, internationally recognized. |
