Rezumat

We analyse problems of creating terminology for small (in a broad sense of this word – endangered, regional, under-resourced etc.) languages and try to classify these problems. In addition we provide some recommendations to overcome the identified problems. Latgalian and Gagauzian languages are used as particular cases. The main conclusions are: 1. Terms should be created timely or (better) aforehand. 2. The fewer native speakers has a language, the less attention should be paid to the formal definition of what terms are. 3. Terminological work can be carried out without a formal mandate too. 4. When developing new terms, it is necessary to search for them in the following sources: - in the language itself, including dialecticisms, archaisms and various slangs, including professional ones; - in related languages; - in languages of historically and geographically close nations; - in other sources. But one must be very careful with languages that are too influential – both for kinship reasons and for social reasons. 5. Automation can partially facilitate the work of terminologists, but will not bring fundamental changes
