During more than a decade of independence, the Republic of Moldova,
being geographically situated in the center of Europe, has hardly defined its
national interest, seeking an advantageous position on the international political
arena. The interest of the middle term state found itself in a tortuous
process of development, in search of its own identity. This article is an analysis
of the national interest position is an analysis of the national interest position
of the Republic of Moldova between the Community of Independent States
and the European Union. The recent parliamentary elections of March 6
as well as those presidential of April 4, 2005 marked the irreversible character
of the country’s national interest, that of joining the European Union, a
big continent of universal values, of economic freedom, of interethnic and political
tolerance and of a increasingly important social responsibility. For the
first time a competitive process brought a compromise between political opponents,
who become committed to following the path of European integration
and alienation from the Russian “orbit”, because the CIS has no chances
to be reduced to what has always been in reality – a now-functional structure
with no perspectives. |
